ESRI Southwest User's Group Conference - October 19-23, 2009 in Pueblo, Colorado
Pre-Conference Workshops
ESRI Technical Workshop I - ArcGIS Desktop III: GIS Workflows and Analysis

ESRI Technical Workshop I - ArcGIS Desktop III: GIS Workflows and Analysis

Understanding how and when to apply ArcGIS tools and functions is the key to creating an efficient GIS workflow. Building on the skills and knowledge taught in ArcGIS Desktop II: Tools and Functionality, this course shows how to apply ArcGIS tools in a workflow context with a focus on working with data stored in a geodatabase and performing geoprocessing and analysis. In the course exercises, you organize and edit data stored in a geodatabase, prepare data for analysis, create and edit geoprocessing models using ModelBuilder, and work through a challenging analysis project. This course is designed for experienced ArcGIS users who want to learn more about the ArcGIS tools for creating and editing data and GIS analysis.

Prerequisites:
Students should have completed ArcGIS Desktop II: Tools and Functionality or Learning ArcGIS Desktop or have equivalent knowledge

ESRI Technical Workshop II - Introduction to ArcGIS Server

ESRI Technical Workshop II - Introduction to ArcGIS Server

ArcGIS Server provides a complete server-based GIS system that supports the use of centrally managed spatial data for mapping and analysis. This course introduces ArcGIS Server and teaches a workflow for creating and sharing GIS maps, globes, and tools. You learn how to publish maps, globes, and geoprocessing models that are optimized for performance and how to create out-of-the-box Web applications using ArcGIS Server Manager. The course covers using GIS services in both Web applications and ArcGIS Explorer. Installation and some configuration techniques for ArcGIS Server are also covered, but administration is not the focus of this course.

This course is designed for those new to ArcGIS Server who want to learn about its architecture, capabilities, and client applications. This course provides foundational ArcGIS Server knowledge and skills and is a prerequisite for the following courses:

ArcGIS Server: Web Administration Using the Microsoft .NET Framework
Developing Applications with ArcGIS Server Using the Java Platform
Developing Applications with ArcGIS Server Using the Microsoft .NET Framework

Prerequisites:

Students should have completed ArcGIS Desktop II: Tools and Functionality or Learning ArcGIS Desktop or have equivalent knowledge.

Geodesy and GIS Technical Workshop

Technical Workshop III - Geodesy and GIS

Do you work in GIS, mapping, or surveying? This course deals specifically with bringing two worlds together: On the one side there is the geodesy/survey world with projections and datums, and on the other there is the need to load/use data in GIS. Very often, things “just don’t fit”. Much too often training for GIS and CAD software is available, but training in the basic principles of geodesy is hard to reach. This course demonstrates those principles and strengthens your professional judgment in a clear and easy-to-follow manner in a classroom setting. The course consists of three four-hour sessions (Geodesy Review 1, Geodesy Review 2, Rectangular Survey System and GIS) that progressively introduce relevant topics. Course begins at 1:00 PM on Monday, continuing all day Tuesday. For more course information, click here.

ArcPad 8 for Mobile GIS Technical Workshop

Technical Workshop IV - ArcPad 8 for Mobile GIS

The one-day workshop will focus on taking GIS from the office to the field using new technologies from Trimble and ESRI. We will focus on ESRI ArcPad 8 software and the ArcPad Data Manager and Trimble GPS Analyst extensions for ArcGIS. The workshop will feature the latest in field data collection technologies including the 360B laser rangefinder and 500SE GPS camera. Participants will gain valuable hands on experience during a two-hour field session.

Instructor: Jackson Beighle
Please note: this technical workshop is a one-day workshop, and will be offered only on Tuesday, October 20.

Jackson Beighle is a GIS-GPS Specialist for Electronic Data Solutions. He graduated from the University of Montana with a Geography degree in 1994 and from Oregon State University in 1996 with a graduate degree in Geography and GIS. Jackson has over 10 years of experience working with a wide range of customers in the GIS industry. He lives in Missoula with his wife Traci and three children, Sam, Finn, and Cole.
